Perdana Menteri Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, Tunku Abdul Rahman mengulukan seruan Merdeka! pada 31 Ogos 1957. 

Pilihan raya umum yang pertama ditandingkan pada tahun 1955. Parti-parti seperti PAS, Parti Negara di bawah pimpinan Dato' Onn bin Jaafar, Parti Buruh, Parti Progresif Perak, Parti Perikatan UMNO-MCA-MIC dan sebagainya bertanding dalam pilihan raya umum tersebut.Parti Perikatan UMNO-MCA-MIC memenangi 51 kerusi daripada 52 kerusi yang dipertandingkan. 1 kerusi lagi dimenangi oleh PAS. Dengan kemenangan dalam pilihan raya, kabinet kerajaan telah dibentuk. Tunku Abdul Rahman menjadi Ketua Menteri yang pertama.

Pada tahun 1956, Tunku Abdul Rahman mengetuai suatu rombongan ke London untuk membincangkan perkara-perkara mengenai kemerdekaan. Rundingan ini mengambil masa tiga minggu di London. Perjanjian London 1956 ditandatangani pada 8 Februari 1956 yang menyatakan persetujuan memberi kemerdekaan kepada Tanah Melayu. Sekembali ke Tanah Melayu, Tunku Abdul Rahman mengumumkan tarikh kemerdekaan di Melaka.

Pada tahun 1956, suatu Suruhanjaya Perlembagaan Komanwel ditubuhkan untuk menggubal perlembagaan. Suruhanjaya Perlembagaan Komanwel atau lebih dikenali sebagai Suruhanjaya Reid yang dipengerusi oleh Lord Reid dari Britian terdiri daripada pakar-pakar undang dari negara Komanwel. Laporan yang dikeluarkan oleh Suruhanjaya Reid dipinda oleh Jawatankuasa Kerja dan diluluskan oleh Majlis Undangan Persekutuan.

Bendera Union Jack iaitu bendera British diturunkan di hadapan Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, Kuala Lumpur pada tepat pukul 12 malam 31 Ogos 1957. Kemudian, Perdana Menteri Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, Tunku Abdul Rahman mengisytiharkan kemerdekaan di Stadium Merdeka. Jemaah Menteri diumumkan juga pada hari pengisytiharan kemerdekaan. 

Apabila tarikh Kemerdekaan telah ditentukan, Tunku telah mengarah Jabatan Kerja Raya untuk membina sebuah stadium terbuka yang akan dijadikan tempat pengistiharan Kemerdekaan. Tunku memilih sendiri lokasinya, di sebuah bukit yang rendah berdekatan Jalan Birch dan stadium itu dinamakan 'Stadium Merdeka'.

Stadium Merdeka 5.00 pagi, 31 Ogos 1957, hujan turun dengan lebatnya. Dato' Abdul Razak yang melawat Stadium pada pagi itu gelisah dengan takungan air di tengah-tengah padang di mana Askar Melayu akan mengadakan perbarisan kehormat. Dato' Razak adalah Timbalan Pengerusi, Jawatankuasa Persiapan Kemerdekaan dengan Tunku sendiri adalah Pengerusinya.

7.00 pagi, hujan mulai reda. Dato' Razak menalifon Tunku dan melaporkan keadaan di stadium. Beliau mencadangkan agar ketibaan Raja-raja Melayu, Duke serta isteri dan Pesuruhjaya Tinggi dilewatkan satu jam.

9.00 pagi, langit mulai cerah, rintik-rintik hujan semakin mengecil dan hilang dari pandangan. Perabut dan perhiasan mula dibawa keluar dengan kadar segera. Tunku telah bersiap sedia di rumahnya. Berbaju Melayu hitam, berkain samping, berselitkan keris bersarong gading dipinggang serta bertengkolok songket, Tunku menantikan saat untuk bertolak.

Di Stadium Merdeka, Tunku berdiri gagah menerima ketibaan Duke of Gloucester yang memakai pakaian istiadat ketenteraan British berpangkat Field Marshall. 'God Save The Queen' berkumandang ketika Duke of Gloucester yang merupakan pakcik Queen Elizabeth II masuk dan mengambil tempat. Duke telah diiringi oleh Pesuruhjaya Tinggi British, Sir Donald MacGillivray.

Raja-raja Melayu pula duduk dipayungi oleh sembilan payung kuning, Yang DiPertuan Agong pula duduk di tengah-tengah, di kirinya Tunku dan di kanannya Duke.

Duke kemudiannya menyerah 'Instrumen Kemerdekaan' yang mana merupakan suatu pengakuan British bahawa ia menyerahkan kedaulatan Pulau Pinang dan Melaka kepada negara baru ini dan seterusnya menarik balik 'perlindungan' yang diberikan kepada negeri-negeri Melayu.

Tunku kemudiannya membacakan pengistiharan Kemerdekaan yang antara lainnya menyebut "Dengan nama Allah, Persekutuan Tanah  Melayu untuk selamanya sebuah negara yang demokratik dan Merdeka". Acapkali suaranya tenggelam dan pekikan Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! oleh rakyat sebuah negara baru yang lahir dari suatu perjuangan yang suci.

Seorang anak bangsa yang menyaksikan segalanya di depan mata, menghuraikan pengalamannya, Hujan renyai-renyai menghiasi pagi. Tanpa disedari linangan air mata membasahi pipi. Stadium Merdeka dibanjiri oleh anak-anak bangsa yang datang dari setiap pelusuk negeri. Masing-masing hadir dengan harapan yang tinggi. Menjadi saksi, satu peristiwa yang penuh bererti, yang tidak akan dilupai tersemat disanubari sampai mati. Merdeka telah kita miliki 'Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

Idea for this "mod" spawned from Bit-Tech's forum. People were talking about coaster that could have lights and ways of doing it. It didn't took more than 500ms when I imagined myself doing this based on GlowPad technique but with internal power source. No point on having coasters with power cords in my opinion. Anyway, here is a small tutorial that I wrote to show you how you can do these yourself. I made this prototype in around two hours so this alone proves that this mod isn't that hard to do. And one more thing; I don't try to encourage people to drink alcohol here. These coasters can be used with tee cups etc. as well.

How does it work?

So the basic idea behind this little invention is that the coaster will light up only when there is something sitting on top of it. You can use a regular on/off power switch if you just want to be able to turn the lights on when you are having a drink but I think that this coaster with "pressure sensor" is more high-tech. ;) This also allows the coaster to be water tight if wanted but it will make the replacement of the batteries bit harder.

CoasterGlow is made out of three layers. Top and bottom layers are made out of thin acrylic so they will bend when you apply a slight pressure against them. When the top part is pressed down by weight of the glass, + leg of that led will make contact with the battery, thus lighting the led up. That other leg is soldered to the battery and will make contact all the time. Most difficult part will be the trimming of those legs so that they will make contact when certain amount of pressure is applied but hopefully we manage to get it working.

Hole Cutter

To cut the discs I used a hole cutter meant for metals. I decided to get this over the regular hole saw because this way I don't have to get all these different sized bimetal hole saw blades to cut blowholes to computer cases. This one tool can handle all the regular fan sizes and everyting in between. To cut these acrylic discs the tool didn't work as smoothly as I hoped but still saved a lot of time compared if I had used Dremel for cutting.

I clamped down all the three layers at the same time so that I could make three discs with one cut. This method worked quite nicely even though the hole cutter tried to rip those 1 mm sheets to pieces. :)

Ring done

Because I'm using the same basic idea that was used in BreezePad, the middle layer had to be hollow. This allows me to place all the electronics in between the top and the bottom discs. Again, to save time I used a column drill to cut out the centre piece from the middle disc. Only this outer ring is needed for this project.

Glued

To glue the top disc to the middle disc I used glass silicon. This allows a smooth joint so that the top disc can bend in more easily. As you can see from the image you weren't too careful about the amount if that silicon but because the inner circuitry will take so little space it doesn't matter.

Batteries for this mod had to be thin and I was lucky to find two 3 volt lithium batteries from my misc box. 3 volts is bit too high for the red leds that I used but because there will be two leds per one cell I decided to leave the resistors out. Because the middle disc is only 5 mm and I had 5mm leds I sanded them down a bit for a perfect fit.

Soldered

I soldered the - legs of the leds to the battery. This way, when the + leg touches the + side of the battery, the led will be lit. I decided to leave all the + legs separated from each others but if you like, you can make one "central leg" that will light up all the leds at once.

Trimmed

hmm... perhaps too much hot glue? :) So, here are the + legs waiting to be pressed down against the surface of the battery. Be sure to trim the height of those legs and test if the leds light up properly when pressure is applied before you glue that bottom part in place.

Oh, and don't get confused about this top and bottom nonsense. It doesn't matter that much which side you call top and which side bottom. This coaster will work on both sides.

I don't like long drink that much but we happened to have this one can of it so why not use for scientific experiments... right?

Metku stickers

Coasters are usually used to advert different beer brands etc. so I decided to advert Metku. Good thing that I still had these stickers ... perhaps I should start sticking them to every mod that I do in the future. :)

The surface of the pad is slightly sanded so that the light will be more visible all around it.

Lights on

Glows quite nicely even with semi bright ambient lights. The weight of the glass presses the top disc down by one millimeter but that is enough to force the contact between the + leg and the battery surface.

Money shot

Sticker is more visible in real life than in this photo but the colors are quite close. Stickers with black text etc. should work better. Coasters are usually used to keep the glass firmly on the table and soak up the spills so one could cover the center area with something similar to a regular coaster. Maybe add a logo by cutting it directly to the coaster surface thus making it glow with the rest of the CoasterGlow.

Sanded or not?

Picture on the left is taken before sanding the pad and the right one after. Sanding, etching, carving etc. could be also used to make those logos/images to the coaster. Making images glow this way was first demonstrated with the original GlowPad article and is now very popular for example in case windowses.

So there you have it. Quite easy mod to do and something that you can show to your girlfriend and not feel like a geek. I'm not sure if this kind of mods that doesn't involve computers is good or bad but proves that these techniques shown on this and other modding sites can be utilized in many different places. Also this wasn't the first time when partying and modding were mixed. Why not mix these CoasterGlows with these Glowing Punchbowls.

Ways to improve this mod or take it even further? You could install a heat sensor for it to change the color of the coaster by the temperature of the drink. Fading different colors or just playing some light animations could also be possible. Song playing coasters... maybe too much. ;) Coaster with Bluetooth connection to inform waitress that you need a refill... There are tons of possibilities and perhaps you may spot one of these on your next visit to that local pub.

Diharamkan mewarnakan badan seperti tangan dengan inai dan seumpamanya bagi orang lelaki melainkan ada keperluan seperti perubatan dan sebagainya.

Imam Nawawi dr ulama mazhab syafie telah berkata: Adapun mewarnakan tangan dan kaki dgn inai adalah disunatkan bagi wanita yg berkahwin berdasarkan hadis2 yg masyhur; dan diharamkan kpd lelaki melainkan kerana keperluan perubatan dan seumpamanya.

Pengharaman ini telah disokong oleh ulama dr mazhab lain seperti disebut dlm kitab Fatawa Hindiah, Fatawa hindiah, Fathul Bari dan lain2.

Dalil pengharaman adalah seperti berikut:

1. Perbuatan ini adalah menyerupai perbuatan wanita yg diharamkan syara'. Nabi bersabda:

لعن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم المتشبهين من الرجال بالنساء ، والمتشبهات من النساء بالرجال.

Maksudnya: Rasulullah s.a.w melaknat lelaki yg menyerupai perempuan dan perempuan menyerupai lelaki. (HR Bukhari)

2. Hadis berikut:

نهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أن يتزعف الرجل.

Maksudnya: Rasulullah s.a.w melarang lelaki untuk memakai wangian Za'faran. (HR Bukhari dan Muslim dan lain2).

Imam Nawawi berkata dalm kitabnya (Majmuk):

Larangan ini adalah kerana warnanya bukan kerana bau wanginya. Bau wangi adalah disunatkan bagi lelaki. Hukum memakai inai bg lelaki adalah sama dengan memakai za'faran.

4. Hadis riwayat Ya'la:

أن رسول الله راى رجلا متخلقا فقال: اذهب فاغسله ثم اغسله ثم لا تعد.

Maksudnya: Sesungguhnya Rasulullah s.a.w melihat seorang lelaki memakai sejenis wangian yg berwarna kekuningan dan kemerahan. Baginda bersabda: Pergilah basuh, pergilah basuh kemudian jangan buat semula. (HR Tirmizi dan Nasaie) sanad yg lemah.

5. Hadis dr Abi Hurairah:

أتى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بمخنث قد خضب يديه ورجليه بالحناء الله ، فقال رسول الله صلى الله: ما بال هذا؟ قالوا يتشبه بالنساء فأمر به فنفي إلى النقيع.

Maksudnya: Para sahabat Nabi telah membawa seorang lelaki yang menyerupai wanita ; dimana dia telah menginai kaki dan tangannya. Rasulullah s.a.w bersabda: "Kenapa dengan lelaki ni?" Para sahabat menjawab: "Dia menyerupai wanita" Lalu Nabi memerintah supaya dihalau ke Naqie'. (HR Abu Daud). Sanad yg lemah.

MIR ALI, Pakistan – The Taliban hinted Thursday they may launch attacks against foreigners helping Pakistan respond to the worst floods in the country's history, saying their presence was "unacceptable." The U.N. said it would not be deterred by violent threats.

The militant group has attacked aid workers in the country before, and an outbreak of violence could complicate a relief effort that has already struggled to reach the 8 million people who are in need of emergency assistance.

Pakistani Taliban spokesman Azam Tariq claimed the U.S. and other countries that have pledged support are not really focused on providing aid to flood victims but had other motives he did not specify.

"Behind the scenes they have certain intentions, but on the face they are talking of relief and help," Tariq told The Associated Press by telephone from an undisclosed location. "No relief is reaching the affected people, and when the victims are not receiving help, then this horde of foreigners is not acceptable to us at all."

In central China on the Yellow River was blown up the dam. The explosion was peaceful in order to remove the silt from the riverbed. Attempts to clear the Yellow River will last another 10 days. From such an emergency release of water produced a strong enough stream washing away the silt deposits on the 800-kilometer stretch of river. 

     Yellow River got its English name “Yellow River” for the color of the water-rich mud that washed out of the loess soil of the territory on which it flows. The Chinese name is Huang translated as “mountain sons of Khan”, which points to the frequent flooding of the river, threatening the destruction and losses to people living along its banks. It is known that over the past 2,000 years the river over a thousand times out of its sides and at least 20 times changed the trajectory of his bed. No wonder people call it “the river thousands of grief. The most dangerous area in the whole Yellow River is the Great China Plain, where the river slows down its flow and spreads widely, and sometimes the level of the river is three meters above the surface of the plains. She is prone to periodic large floods. But, like many other large rivers, it gives new life to the fields, because the retreating after the spill water leaves a large part of fertile loess collected upstream. However, the Yellow River – certainly one of the muddy rivers in the world. Thus, it carries about 26 kg of silt per cubic yard of water, while river flooding – up to 544 kg. This shows that the rate of flow of the river is relatively high, without losing speed even when passing through the extensive irrigation system in the plains.
